Skincare wish list

A few weeks ago I did a post which was full of all the make up I would want for Christmas (or with any Christmas money I may get) and I decided that I just couldn't stop at make up!!! As some one who was originally a make up obsessive (like everyone reading this I imagine), since starting A Day In The Life of a Northern Girl, and reading so many other amazing blogs out there, I've become a little beauty product obsessed too. So here are just a few items that made it to the Christmas short list.

Skincare wish list

Although I don't really have any blemishes on my skin, I do suffer from a fair amount of blackheads. I've heard some great things about Soap and Glory's The Fab Pore face mask. This 2 in 1 beauty works as a deep cleaning mask to help prevent the blackheads, but also works as a peel to help unclog the skin.

Next we come to the Bumble and Bumble Sunday Shampoo which I think could potentially be my saviour. Described as a product that will wash away any product build up in the hair, my real interest in it is for its claim to help with hard water minerals. Since the move to London my hair has really suffered from the hard water. Up in't Sheffield, us northern folks have lovely soft water that causes no problems and tastes like gold compared to the musky, hair wrecking water down here. Since moving I have been malting like mad and anything that could help with this would be a dream. So Bumble and Bumble may just be the one for me.

If you read my post on Soap and Glory, you will know that I am a bit of a scub lover. The Scrub Your Nose In It is made for unclogging your skin and preventing oil build up. For an oily skin type like me I will try anything to help prevent that shine. Less oil build up means less shine...yes please.

The Origins Active Charcoal Mask has been getting some real attention on the bloggasphere right now and I want to join in on the madness! Charcoal is said to be really good for clearing the skin and making your skin soft and smooth. Again this product is a great pour unblocker which will hopefully work wonders for de-oiling my skin.

Another one from Origins is the cult favourite GenZing Moisturiser that is said to fully hydrate your skin. The fact it has caffeine in from the coffee beans it's made up of helps revive and energise your skin too. I've also heard from the odd post that it has helped with the odd eye circle or two.

The final product is the Smashbox photo finish primer. I am a big lover of primers, they help stop shine, they balance out your flaws and pours and they help your make up stay on longer. I've heard great things about Smashbox primers, such as they make your make up look better and they are great for a photo ready finish. So, what's not to love.

And that's my list, the wonder products that I would love to be trying in the new year. Fingers crossed I will be able to add some to my collection after the Christmas period. What would you add to your skincare wish list? Do you already have some of these? And would you recommend them?

My Make Up Christmas Wishlist

My Make Up Christmas Wishlist
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

As everyone is aware, Christmas is coming and I really couldn't be more excited. I love Christmas, I always have an always will. I love the build up, I love the day and I love the aftermath. Normally I get the same little make up presents from my mum. This consists of my Bare Minerals Mineral Power, My YSL Mascara and YSL Touché Éclat. If it was up to me, when she ask's 'what would you like for Christmas?' I would happy only give her a list of make up. But, unfortunately she refuses to do that so, I have created a wish list of stuff I would love to get, or would buy myself if I got the chance (had the money!!)

1. The most talked about product of the moment, the Nars One Night Stand palette, is every beauty lovers top product. I keep seeing posts about it everywhere and I just really want this in my life. I'm running out of my Laguna bronzer and thought I might as well get a highlighter and four blushes for an extra twenty quid.

2. When I was thinking of prizes for my give away (which is still going by the way so enter here) I said that I was a rubbish beauty blogger. This is because I have never tried a Mac lipstick. So if I could use my Christmas wish list for anything, it would be to rectify this. I'm not sure on the exact shade I'd go for but I'm looking for a nice deep purple shade. Something like Rebel or Cyber.

3. I have already tried the YSL Touché Éclat foundation and I love it, but I have run out hence why it is in this wish list at number 6. I've heard so much about the new YSL foundation. The Forever Youth Liberator Foundation has a tiny percentage of their wonder serum in it. When I tried to get a sample of this from the MUA at the counter, she informed me that even though I'm only 24, I have to start thinking about preventing my skin from ageing already. This product should hopefully help whilst covering any blemishes at the same time. Plus, I've heard it has really good coverage and people have had nothing but compliments when they wear this.

4. OK, so we all know about my issues with my under eye circles and I have finally got a pretty good ragieme going on. However, when I saw this in a recent post from Ruth from A Model Recommends I just knew I HAD to test it out. It's meant to give really good coverage and hide even the darkest of circles. If it's anything like the double wear foundation, the Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place High Coverage Concealer will definitely be brilliant.

5. Another product that has been popping up in posts and videos everywhere is the Bourjois Java Rise Powder. As someone with oily skin I'm always looking for powders and setting products. It also helps that this powder has the cutest vintage packaging I've seen. It is unfortunately the only high street product on my wish list...oops!!

6. See post 3...basically, I need a top up of this as I love this foundation but I'm all out.

So what make up has made it on your christmas wish list? Have you tried any of these products? I'd love more products to add to my shopping list hehe.

Kimono Nights Out

The other night (well actually it was a few weeks ago now as it was still warmish) I went for a few drinks for a mates birthday. I decided to bust out my Kimono for the occasion and since Kimono's are being sold left right and centre at the moment I thought I'd model an outfit similar to the one I wore. And here it is...

Kimono Nights Out

As I wanted the Kimono to do all the talking I paired it with a plain white cami. I am loving the silk v-necked Topshop ones at the moment. Well actually I have loved them since I got them in summer. I think I pretty much lived in them on holiday. I also went for my cream one as I didn't want anything to take the attention away from the detail of my Kimono.

I then threw my Kimono over the top. Mine is a dark cream/beige colour and has black silhouettes of birds flying up from the bottom. I also go this from Topshop and I love it so much, but the one in this picture really stood out to me. I love it's pastel colours and the tassels. I find Kimono's are so feminine looking but because they are quite baggy, they are great for those who are having a particularly 'frumpy' day.

I then added my staple Topshop Leigh skinny jeans which go with everything, I didn't mean for all my clothes to be Topshop but sometimes it just happens!! I went with simple jewellery and just had a plain gold chunky necklace, my usual watch and my Urban Outfiters midi rings. I am obsessed with gold jewellery, always have been and always will!

I'm not a girl who likes dainty shoes. I like them big, I like the chunky and I usually prefer some sort of boot. For this outfit I went for such a thing, a wedged boot. Mine are from Matt Alan (or Matalan as other people like to call it) and there are gorgeous, people compliment them all the time which is always lovely for a girl to hear. They are significantly nicer than the ones in the picture but these were as close as I could find.

Finally, the finishing touches were left to an oversized clutch bag (an every girls must have) and, of course, my YSL red lippy. Everyone feels more dressed up when they are wearing red lippy right?!?

What are your thought's on Kimono's? Are they just for the summer or can they be a staple piece in our winter wardrobes?

A Day In The Life At The Office: Style Post

A day in the life of work

Right this is my second style post and it's a bit more formal and stylish than last time. This is pretty much exactly what I wear to work on a day to day basis. I am lucky that, although I work in a professional environment, there is a fairly relaxed feel when it come to what you wear. Yes all the men wears suits but the ladies have a more casual approach going on which means I don't have to invest in a hideous 'lady suit.'

Ok, lady suits are sort of in fashion right now. You know the beautiful and bold matching trousers and jacket, usually floral? They are amazing but there not what you'd wear to work. When I say lady suit here I mean the polyester black or grey suits that aren't the most stylish. So, as I refuse to wear one, this is the style I go for.

I wear a nice collared blouse, usually in black and white, to make myself look smart. Pairing this with a pair of black jeans relaxes the look without making it look too casual. I've always thought black jeans looked smarter, is that just me?!? I finally throw on a cotton blazer to help add a fashionable twist on the typical smart style.

Accessories wise, despite being rather tall I find a pair of heels makes me feel more professional. I don't want to feel like I'm on a night out here so a chunky heel is a safe bet. I love the Chelsea Boot  style and again think it brings the traditional smart look to the younger generations. Although many may disagree I think the tan and black colours together, really work hence the boots and bag. Obviously I wear a satchel styled bag for work cause satchel equals intelligent right?!?

Finally, I tend to avoid jewellery as braclettes bash against the desk whilst I'm typing and I fiddle with my rings too much when I'm sat at a computer. I therefore stick with my trusty everyday chunky gold watch.

I love my office style and would wear it on a weekend if it didn't remind me of having to be up stupidly early! What do you think of it? Would it be something you'd style together or even something you'd wear for work? What is your outfit of choice for the office? Let me know below.

On A Day Like Today: Style Post

So this is my first proper styling post. I have done a outfit of the day post before but I was a bit under confident about it so thought I would use Polyvore to create some looks I usually wear, without having to take pictures of myself. So here we go...

on a day like today

On a day like today where I'm not feeling well but I had to leave the house (to go to the walk in centre) I go for a comfy look. I want something that I can feel warm and snuggley in so a big woolly jumper does the trick nicely but still looks stylish.

I go for a pair of comfy skinny jeans because, even though I'm feeling crappy, a girls got to try right!? Flat shoes are also a must as they're just practical. When you're in a rush and want to get home asap, flats mean no sore feet. Finally a woolly hat is what I wear for a little extra warmth. It's not too cold yet here in London and the sun is actually still shinning, so no coat is needed. This little accessory just keeps the heat in a little (and also hides the fact I haven't washed my hair today) and adds a small splash of colour.

As you can see I have left out any jewellery, although I love a good necklace with an outfit, and like to wear as many rings as possible on a day to day basis, on sick days jewellery just annoys me. I can't be doing with fiddly bits to my outfit so I pass on anything dainty all together.

I hope you liked my first style post, it's just something a bit simple but I like it and think I will be doing more like this. How do you find the outfit I picked? Would you wear it on a 'day like this'?
